P
hotography…What is photography? Well, it’s plain and simple. Photography is whatever the person behind the camera deems it to be. In other words, it’s that person’s point of view at the time the camera shutter is clicked, beginning the process of creating a photo. Photography is the magic between person holding the camera and the scene that is playing out in front of him. Photography is that scenery frozen for all time. It’s all perspective.
I had always been told I had an eye for photography when I was using film and a point-and-shoot digital camera that only had the automatic mode. When my camera was upgraded, I had to learn how to use it. I took a class in Beginning Digital Photography and was immediately put on a learning curve. From day one in that class, I was shooting in RAW as per part of the class curriculum.
One assignment in that class was to do a self portrait, hence the photo I placed here. My first attempt taking a self portrait resulted in over 500 shots, most of which were really, really bad! But, I took it all in stride and settled on this photo because it really portrayed where I was at mentally at the time. Yes, it was a dark time in my life, and my photography showed it a lot.
But, not all my photography is dark. I do enjoy working with abstract, flora, landscape, macro, nature, and still life, although I don’t limit my hobbyist skills to those categories. I consider myself to be a hobbyist photographer as I am NOT, by any means, a professional photographer. I shoot the way I want to shoot. If the photo is crisp and clean, that’s okay. If the photo is blurred in some fashion well, that’s okay too.
This is my first posting on my new blog. I hope you enjoy it and, even if you don’t, that’s okay. I would love to hear from you to let me know what you think of the site. I welcome all critiques for that is how I learn. You can email me or use the contact form. Either way, your words are welcome.
