The double faced mask is the Indonesian take on comedy/tragedy. It’s not thought to have a particular spirit or god; however, the Greek god Janus had two halves they were male and female.

At any given time during our lives, the beast in us can come forward. For some, the beast is constantly lying beneath the surface of our everyday mask. For others, the beast stays buried only to surface when we are faced with adversity. Yet, for others, the beast may never surface. It’s all in the temperament and/or character that makes us human.
