The beastly mask is actually a protector and it is suspected to be indonesian or a representation of a mythological creature or being based upon the carving itself. However, it is a very folkish style of painting rather than traditional.
At any given time during our lives, the beast in us can come forward. For some, the beast is constantly lying beneath the surface of our everyday mask. For others, the beast stays buried only to surface when we are faced with adversity. Yet, for others, the beast may never surface. It’s all in the temperament and/or character that makes us human.
