This unique piece was born from a dynamic, fast-paced test tracking the interaction of light, carbonation, and liquid pigments. As a playful studio trial, a single droplet of pure blue, green, yellow, and red food coloring was carefully added to a glass of ice-cold 7-UP soda. Because of the intense effervescence, the clock was instantly ticking. The fizzing carbonated bubbles began melding the distinct droplets together almost immediately, requiring an incredibly fast shutter response to capture the vivid interaction before the vibrant pigments collapsed into a muddy, brown sludge.
The final result of this race against time can be witnessed in this piece, which stands as a pure, unpredictable abstract. While color systems in technology–like painting, printing, and digital electronic monitors–rely on highly strict mathematical spaces to mix primary lights and mediums perfectly, real-world physical media behaves with its own chaotic fluid rules. This experimental color abstract photography study isolates those split-second bleeding edges where primary shades collide inside a sea of rising carbonation.
